Alternative Routes to Certification
Summative Evaluations
from your Principal
According to Title 14, Chapter 12, Subchapter VI, § 1260, in order to successfully complete ARTC, a teacher candidates must obtain “…Two summative evaluations using a state-approved system with not more than 1 summative evaluation being unsatisfactory.”
Most school districts in Delaware utilize DTGSS as their teacher evaluation system, in which you (the teacher) will be observed and evaluated by a principal or assistant principal in your building. Delaware state code states that ARTC teachers must receive a minimum of three formative observations and one summative observation during each school year. In order to successfully complete ARTC, no more than one “unsatisfactory” summative evaluation is permitted.
While in ARTC, you are required to send us copies of your year end summative observations that you receive. Not only does this help us to maintain updated records, but feedback you receive on these evaluations can also help to guide us in making program improvements. Furthermore, we cannot issue a completion letter without having proof that you have met this certification requirement.
